Interesting, but other Socialists have run for President. They have been far more successful too. Eugene Debs ran in 1912, and garnered 12% of the Vote. He was sentenced to Federal Prison for 'Sedition', by that Great Humanitarian [tongue in cheek] President Wilson. Wilson was re-elected in 1916, running as an Anti-War Candidate.
The Sedition Charges against Debs were based on his Anti-War speeches, which encouraged Working Class Men to register as Conscientious Objectors, rather then participating in a "War to Protect" the money of Rockefeller and other Wealthy Capitalists.
He became the Socialist Candidate for President again in 1918 while serving his sentence in Atlanta Federal Penitentiary. He received a respectable number of votes, given his inability to Campaign in public. President Hoover pardoned him in 1923, and released him.
Debs was a leader of the RR Union, from Rural Indiana. In 1905, he was one of the Labor Organizers who formed the International Workers of the World. It is still famous as the IWW, better known as the Wobblys.
It never hurts to remember the history of our Working Men and Women. They not only built this country, but they kept it fed - during two World Wars, and the Depression. Now their jobs have been off-shored to increase the wealth of the same Fat Cats they fought throughout our History.
