What you call "favored treatment" is nothing more than LGBTQs asserting their equal rights and the law courts acknowledging them.
When did the religious believers lose their rights when the LGBTs gained equal rights? They didn't. They just lost their self-proclaimed superiority privilege.
The blunder was in giving LGBT beliefs and believers far more favored treatment than religious beliefs and believers. It is really unwise to underestimate people's sensibilities about sexuality to the point of them becoming victims of sexual harassment. It's curiously much easier to see in light of recent concerns raised about harassment in general.

The reason we have Trump in the White House is the Progressive classic blunder, compounded by the Obama administration, of neglecting the concerns of religious voters.
Urban consumers and small farmers have a common interest in fighting agribusiness. The international agricultural and chemical conglomerates produce enormous amounts of inexpensive grains, dairy, and meat. However, they're poor nutrition, loaded with chemicals, hormones, and antibiotics, and damaging to the soil and environment, as well as driving small farmers out of business. The key to a town and country alliance is breaking through the wedge issues—racism, abortion, guns, and women's and gay rights.
Most rural denizens voted for Trump thinking he was going to bring them prosperity. How's that working out for the little guy now? Vote blue if you want to live past 2018.
