The Gravest Threat to World Peace

Not everyone agrees it's a nuclear Iran.

By Noam Chomsky

Reporting on the final U.S. presidential campaign debate, on foreign policy, The Wall Street Journal observed that "the only country mentioned more [than Israel] was Iran, which is seen by most nations in the Middle East as the gravest security threat to the region." [RETURN TO ARTICLE]

the gravest threat to world peace is Washinton’s politicians - our wonderful WAR-MONGERS.  How could George Bush give humanitarian aid to north korea while planning to attack Iraq - - enabling his developement of nuclear weapons.

I’m sorry but if that maniac isnt the biggest problem I don’t see how we could say Iran.

Have WE the People forgotten our PEACOCK THRONE - the SHAH of IRAN
our private dictatior - despot - tyrant ....
How are we as a nation of peace looking at Iran ??/  allowing north korea nuclear weapons ???  Iran is a soverneign nation - maybe we should address tham as such——PEACE IS EASIER AND CHEAPER THAN WAR…...BUT THAT’S ALL WASHINGTON TALKS ABOUT ????  WAR

    AMERICA IN TROUBLE
WHOSE FAULT? R or D? Or both?
    Outsourcing industries—R & D
Flush Wealth to top 10%—R tax codes
Bush 1900B Tax Cuts—43% to top 5%—16% to bottom 60%
Bush two war=cost2000B over a decade—ruined our reputation as a caring Christian nation
    Bush Part D Medicare
The Middle Class has been gutted while top 10% own 73% net wealth,, 83% financial wealth-get 43% individual income paid 18% tax rate—25% get 66% income paid 15% tax rate—top 50% got 87% Income paid 12.5% tax rate—70 Million got 13% of the income.
Redistribution of Wealth our biggest problem. We must tax wealth to get a balance and pay down debt. It is a sham when we tax 2100 Billion—spend 3500B—and borrow 1400B.
Let the rich off. 14,000B Income cannot pay 3500B budget??? 37Mm tax returns paid 11.06% Tax Rate in 2009. Will we awaken?
Repeal Glass Steagall allowed 10 big gambling institutions to buy up 80% of 7000 Banks.

Good essay, our country expects to bomb an active reactor and has no idea of the results.  If our ally uses nukes then what?  Expect Saudi oil production to be destroyed and our economy will take a hit.  Congress needs to understand that the most important nation they serve is the United States.  How could we allow a conference and see a report which our ally would not accept.  I understand that Saudi women have more rights than women of Iran and Iraq.

The United States government is, far and away, the greatest threat to world peace. They have well over 700 military bases girding the globe, They’re armed to the teeth with weapons of mass destruction including hundreds of tactical nuclear weapons and 2,150 operationally deployed strategic US nuclear warheads. to say nothing of chemical and biological weapons, which the US has ‘renounced’ but remains capable of producing. They have a fearsome record of genocide in Vietnam and Iraq and a reputation of mass murder of civilians from Panama to Palestine.

Their reach is long and deadly. In the period since the end of World War Two they’ve attacked:

    Korea from 1950 to 1953,

    Thailand and Cuba in 1962,

Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos from 1961 to 1975 where they committed genocide,

    The Dominican Republic in 1965,

    Iran in 1980,

    El Salvador in 1981,

Lebanon repeatedly from 1958 until 1982,

    Grenada in 1983,

Iran (in the Persian Gulf) in 1987 and 1988,

    Panama from 1989 to 1990,

    Serbia in the 1990′s,

    Afghanistan since 2001,

Iraq from 2003 until recently, a second genocide,

Libya, Bahrain and Yemen for the last several years.

Those are just the major military attacks. if you include operations to topple popular governments or support right wing dictatorships you can add Iran, Chile, Nicaragua, Venezuela, Brazil, Cuba, Guatemala, Sudan Libya, Egypt, Morocco, Mexico, Columbia, Indonesia, Taiwan, China,  and dozens of other countries. They’ve continuously attacked Palestine since 1948 by supplying weapons to IDF thugs.

The solutions to the problems posed by American aggression are easy, but the Democrats and Republicans will oppose them so we have to break with them.

    1) fight for the immediate and total withdrawal of all US military, mercenary and security police forces (like the CIA) to US home bases and their demobilization and disarming.

    2) press for a Constitutional amendment declaring that the US will never again engage in wars of aggression and laws making it a capital offense to plan or commit wars of aggression or to lie to Congress in the pursuit of wars of aggression.

    3) call for convening an International War Crimes Tribunal to investigate US crimes against humanity and war crimes by US officials

Who really understands what the Arab populations think? Professor Chomsky thinks he understands what the Arab populations think, but this is certainly bluster on his part. Prof. Chomsky has no evidence to present on the thinking of the Arab populations.

Why is it so difficult to understand why a people who faced total extermination at the hands of the most barbaric political tyranny in history would wish to possess a nuclear deterent?

Iran’s theocratic and authoritarian state taunts the world with state sanctioned conferences on Holocaust denial; supports violence prone surrogates, such as Hezbollah; exports arms to like minded authoritarian statelets and movements; oppresses domestic political opposition; conducts a violent internal campaign against trade union rights; vilfies the Enlightenment (Western and Islamic).

The end of the Cold War has been disappointing with respect to nuclear disarmament. Progress toward the goal of world nuclear disarmament has been insufficient. The peace movement should call for a “Nuclear Free Middle East,” in the same way, it calls for the disarmament of North Korea, China, Russia, USA, UK, France, Pakistan and India. Let Israel join the forward march of the world’s nuclear powers toward nuclear disarmament. It is not for Israel alone to be the lonely and singular vanguard in this effort.

    Bill_Purdue—

Right on! Add to your great list that the U.S. also very likely attacked Haiti via H.A.A.R.P and also in U.S. domestically New Orleans’ lower ninth district. White Europeans in U.K., America, and elsewhere have thrived / prospered using guns / disease to take / control / enslave / exploit / change / destroy countries, people, and cultures that never belonged to them. Washington, D.C. and NYC are respectively Sodom / Gomorah. Great power / wealth concentrated in the hands of a few has historically always been dangerous and is about maintenance the rich and their continuing deception, lies, greed, corruption, and initiation of chaos, murder, and all other injustices inflicted upon the non-rich masses worldwide. Such evil in this world is coming to an end and all perpetrators of evil will be severely punished as biblical prophecies have accurately foretold. Though they have enjoyed selfish greed, riches, and all other luxuries on earth as billions of adults / children worldwide live in poverty without adequate or decent food, shelter, clothing, health care, education, and employment it is without question that the souls / spirits of the selfish, greedy / evil rich / all other wicked people following the death of their flesh will indeed burn / horribly suffer for all eternity. If they never pray for forgiveness from Almighty God in the Name of Lord Savior Jesus Christ and also repent well before physical death, their acquisition of diabolical greed, exploitation, stock portfolios, bank accounts, mansions, fancy cars, yachts, islands, weapons and all the rest will do nothing for them in the end. Woe to all who ignore that death of the physical flesh is only elimination of life in the flesh on earth, a transition to soul-spirit life, and that Almighty God sees / judges every human life as lived on earth.

“Vengeance is mine” saith the Lord Almighty God. “I will repay.”
