Oil giant BP greenwashes Alberta tar sands

By Michael Moreci

In 1997, after British Petroleum publicly acknowledged the harmful effects of global warming, it quickly became known as the oil company with environmental virtue. I do not consider myself to be an environmentalist and too have concerns about Canadian crude.  However I was dismayed at the technical inaccuracies and inconsistencies included - which makes me doubt all of the information that was provided.  For example - “...resulted in a significant increase in sulfur dioxide, particulate matter and carbon monoxide emissions. All are ozone-depleting chemicals...” No, they are not.  Read the EPA website or ask your high school chemistry teacher.

I have had occaision to read documents written by Ann Alexander and have found her to be thoughtful in her presentation and most imporantly accurate.  I am surprised that her errors or is the author?  Either way, I clearly would not rely upon either as a reliable information source.

I would disagree with you larryw.I have seen a show on the Discovery channel about tar sands and it does sound like an environmental disaster in the making. If we don’t keep an eye on these oil companies and just take their word that everything will be ok.Then it will be too late when the oil sand hits the ground.Big Business will lie, cheat, steal, and manipulate to get the oil that WE demand.WE need to get off of our arses and learn to do more for public transportation, renewable energy, and conservation. We are spoiled by the mineral wealth that this country has had,as well as the wealth of our soil, plants, and animals. Now the shat is hitting the fan and we need to wake up and not smell the cost of imported coffee with it’s high cost of transportation. We need to tighten our belts and learn to do more with what we have and not want every bloody thing that we want, now! We need to grow up.We act like children and don’t care what it cost.We want it now

I am not german.Thank you very much.I have never been german.
