    Gov. Manchin is the governor of West Virginia, not Virginia. Please do a basic fact check before you post mistakes like that.

    Bravo to these candidates, not only for their integrity, but for understanding that true progress will not come from the Democratic party. Ms. Hakeem and other Greens deserve much respect for digging in for long-term change and refusing to be window dressing for a corporate party that is rotting from the inside. Thanks to Howard Zinn, non-corporate media and common sense, more and more Americans are waking up to the fact that the Democratic party is where progressive politics goes to die. Yes, “progressive” Dems may win a few token elections, but they sure don’t do much else.

    “Any candidate who’s going to bring true progressive values to the political system,” he says, “is going to be stabbed in the back by the Democratic Party.”

    Excellent observation, Mr. Johnson. Maybe In These Times should do a report on how the Democratic Party treats progressives who actually stand up to the big-money establishment.
