Manufacturing Discontent

By David Moberg

Carrying puppets and placards, several hundred union members and community activists gathered on Nov. 1 in a lot across from the rambling Brach’s candy factory on Chicago’s economically bleak west side. They were protesting the company’s decision to shut down the plant, which provided about 1,000 decently paid, unionized jobs, and move production to Mexico. The plant seemed like another tombstone… return to article

There is not a single economic indicator that did not improve in the last 2 months.

Such a gloomy article, goodness. Are you nervous about what this rapidly growing economy (8+%!) will do to the ‘04 elections? You should be…....

what makes people think things will get better? Take a look at Bush’s policies..cry’s big crocodile tears and keeps right on screwing us…I can’t believe the total stupidity of the Bush supporters…If Ashcroft sent storm troopers to take them all into custody..and give them “showers” they would go with big smiles singing God Bless America….I haven’t seen this much stupidity since “All in the Family” was cancelled..at least we knew that the character that Archie Bunker was not really the way Carrol O’ Conner really felt. One American citizenship for sale here..a citizenship that goes all the way back to before Columbus ever “discovered” America…the facsists can have it ...

“One American citizenship for sale here”

Really?  For how much? Would you sell it to me?

Where will you go?  Why will that be preferable?

“rapidly growing economy”?!  Is there a Maryland in some other country, too?  Clearly we do not live in the same place.

    That’s right, Sarah.
If you call low-paying, dead-end jobs that do nothing to stimulate consumer spending and further the gap between rich and poor, then go ahead, Kena, be fooled.
This voodoo economics, or “piss-on economics” this administration is trying to con people into believing is working, isn’t. It’s another CRIME that son-of-a-bitch is committing against this nation and it’s people.

Sure, business is growing, shipping technical and manufacturing jobs overseas where they do nothing to benefit this nation.

The poor had a better chance before this criminal cheated his way into the White House. You remember that, Kena Dehlshi, in ‘04 when your power bill has doubled, interest rates rise, the housing market collapses, and most of your civil rights have been traded in for “security”.

actually sarah, we do do have a rapidly growing economy. You were against the tax cut, but it seems to be working.
