No Micheal Hardesty, you PERSONALLY, OUT OF YOUR OWN PIGGY BANK, do not owe African Americans anything. INSTITUTIONALLY as whole, this country, the US of A, does owe African-Americans a HUGE debt. The civil rights work your wife did in the 60s is WELL appreciated - I returned the favor by volunteering during my youth at the Associated Jewish charities, actually spending time with elderly Jewish people who had no family (some due to the HOlocaust).
HOWEVER THERE IS SO MUCH MORE WORK TO BE DONE, as evidenced by some of the posts in this discussion. The gains of the civil rights movement occurred because the US was publicly shamed by the world at large during WWII for its treatment of African-Americans as a human rights violation and morality issue - basically you can’t dictate to Germany when look at how shamefully you treat your own people. AGAIN, KNOW HISTORY BEFORE YOU SPEAK.
The fact that your family are “recent” arrivals doesn’t absolve Irish Americans (who are European) of anything. Read the history of this country - the period after Reconstruction, was one of the bloodiest, repressive, oppresive and awful times for the “offcially emancipated” African Americans. And the IRISH sure sided with the “white” people when they got here.
And guess what else during this same time period that you’re quoting? The Irish were allowed in this country as labor to DISPLACE AFRICAN-AMERICANS already here; the Irish themselves were trying to ESCAPE OPPRESSION, FAMINE AND RACISM FROM THE ENGLISH. Once here in the US and only here in the US, the Irish became “White”. (This only means that in the US, if you aren’t of African descent, you now become “White” with its privledges.)
In Ireland, sheep displaced the Irish off the land that they farmed for rich landowners. (Settlement Act, The Penal Codes and Catholicism, The Great Famine.) Hmmm…I think the Irish are still fighting now….? DO YOU KNOW YOUR HISTORY? I make it my business to know yours and mine. Many of the same arguements you give about African-Americans and their supposed criminality, etc. were used against the Irish both in Ireland, England and the US when your family immigrated here…how things change and stay the same.
Listen Michael Hardesty and crew, African-Americans would much prefer a TRUE LEVEL-PLAYING FIELD, REAL EQUAL OPPORTUNITY AND EQUAL TREATMENT UNDER THE LAW AND ALL INSTITUTIONS IN THIS COUNTRY, rather than blood money, which is a little different from welfare. Enron, MCI, big business in general receives PLENTY of welfare - go ask them for your money back!

Everyone needs to learn to separate questions of culture from economic and legislative issues. We don’t care if you personally don’t like us, we really don’t care if you don’t want to be our friends, smile at us, play golf or basketball with us or marry us. You bring up some points worth refuting in your
extensive rant so let’s take the Irish who came
here in the 19th century. They not only did not
displace blacks but they themselves couldn’t get
work because of the widespread anti-Irish discrimination that existed into the 20th century.
I had ancient Irish relatives in West Virginia
that were on both sides of the Civil War.
If Irish today were committing the volume of crimes that blacks routinely do, they would and
should be profiled. If I was handling airport
security I would certain be warier of a Saudi
than a Swede and that’s entirely rational.
Personally I support the Palestinians and my
wife tends to be slightly more pro-Israeli.
But I think their suicide bomber tactics have
been totally counterproductive and have only
strenghtened the hand of the ultra-Right Likud
forces in Israel and here in the US Jewish community. Ergo for black crime and general
sociopathology, it has been the cause of every
rightwing victory since 1966. Reagan, Nixon, etc. Now your charge that someone who disagrees with
you is the victim of media manipulation is
meaningless because by definition anyone who
disagrees with you can be charged with same.
It’s what philosophers call proving too much because if it explains everything it then explains nothing. Again if my personal opinion
doesn’t mean anything, then why does YOURS ????
Once you universalize the proposition it again
falls to pieces. Why even comment on it if it is

The whole concept of equality and level playing
fields is a myth and a fraud, whether on an
individual or group level. How am I equal to
the Rockefellers or Kennedys ? Only in a VERY
narrow legal sense does equality have any meaning
and even there if you have funds to hire a better
attorney you get better representation, that is
just objective reality.
I’m mystified as to what else you think we should
do legislatively with the State alreading dictating to us in all private businesses, hiring,
whom you can serve, whom you can sell your house
to, etc.
I do know a bit about Irish history and the English land grabs but it wasn’t the topic soI didn’t expound on it. White people in Europe lived
in serfdom for hundreds of years too. Not to
mention even worse for a thousand years of the
Dark Ages.
I am totally opposed to the drug wars, mandatory
minimums, gun control laws, disparate crack v.
cocaine sentencing (I oppose the drug laws period). I believe the law should stay out of
gambling, prostitution, licensing taxis and
other activities that limit people from voluntary
interchanges (I’m not saying I think the above
activities are good things but people have personal rights). I’m opposed to corporate welfare
and urban renewal, zoning, planning laws are probably racist in effect if not in intent.
I never implied all leftists or all Jews were
anti-racist, I was just giving some personal bio.
Glad you did work at some Jewish institutions,
damn few blacks do, it’s much more the case of
Jews supporting black causes (even to some extent
today).
I sympathize with your predicament as a lace curtain black having to deal with shanty Irish

I wanted to add something to your comments about
the US Govt’s (Cold War) motives for advocating
civil rights. I think it was one of many travesties done under the color of law and fighting Communism that worked to decrease freedom
over here. The state segregation laws should have
been declared unconstitutional from the get-go, I
assume we agree here. But this could have been
done without any push for forced integration,
excepting only government owned buildings which
are subsidized by all the taxpayers and should
not be able to discriminate, so the local or states rights argument never appealed to me.
The Irish are white so naturally they would
identify easier with other whites than blacks,
particularly in a conflict situation. But the
idea that they stole jobs from blacks is ludicrous, at the time they came over blacks
overwhelmningly lived on farmlands in the south
and the Irish were mostly going to big cities,
my family on my Mother’s side, Malloy, was unusual in going to West Virginia.
Nor was the great industrial wealth of the USA
created by slave labor, which by its nature,
is inherently unproductive and inefficient,
outside of its basic immorality. The South lost
the war precisely because slave labor couldn’t
compete with free labor. The US Govt itself
outlawed the slave trade in 1803, we were only
in existence as a government since 1776, so your talking a generation here, not 300 or 400 years
of US govt responsibility since the US Govt did
not exist (we could argue it didn’t exist until
the Articles of Confederation were overthrown
by the Constututional Coup in Philadelphia).
Even today not all blacks are treated unfairly
so you can’t make the broad collective guilt
judgments that you do with semblance of fact.
That the USA is a class society is true and class
is a much greater taboo than race in American
culture and society.
If reparations are due then they would be due
from your fellow blacks in Africa (real brothers,
eh ?) and the Arabs too. Then if we deduct the
real cost of African American crime and welfare,
it becomes more problematic yet. We might be talking about bills, not checks.

One other point to Ingrid, the very widespread
complaint about affirmative action is that it is precisely the incompetents that are being rewarded
due to race quotas or whatever the current euphemism is. So we agree here that the competent
ought to be rewarded over the less competent but
it’s precisely the programs that you have advocated that are causing this horrible situation
of people advancing on their race, rather than
merit. I know of some professional blacks who resent affirmative action because it is assumed
by everyone that they got their positions due to
same. It’s a minority view in the black but it exists.

Some further, maybe final thoughts here.
I think it’s a mistake to premise the discussion
on what are basically globalist metaphysical issues such as claims that all blacks have been
persecuted for 400 years, all Jews for 6,000 years, all whites are superior products of western
civilization,etc., ad nausem. It’s simply a non-starter, better to start from inductive empirical
observation and then come to modest, manageable
general conclusions. And those conclusions can
always be revised in the light of new evidence.
Real history by its nature is revisionist, always
being revised in light of either new empirical
evidence or new theories obtained by rational analysis.

There is nothing wrong with borrowing the ideas of others, especially in your case - it certainly sounds like you’ve spent enough on books. But reading books isn’t everything - not even close. Thought and Action go together - you can’t have one without the other. If you want to lose weight, reading the book on the diet & exercise program you have chosen is a good thing, but now you have to get off your fat ass and actually do the program. I’ve seen what you’ve read - now show me what you have done about it. If you really wish to be convincing, show me.

As a matter of principle I decided to only respond

basic rules of english and how to punctuate, when
to use capital letters, be civil, intelligent
and know basic rules of Aristotelian logic,
what constitutes an argument and what is an
invalid ad hominem attack. Like you, Ingrid, I
insist on only associating with my higher class
of people and not foul smelling gutter riffraff
whose intellects are low & whose smegna odor is
high. We intellectuals are the real longrange
rulers of the world of ideas, which ultimately
means the world itself. We should not contaminate
our most valuable selves by associating with or
responding to what Nietzsche called the untermenschen.

Query to fellow East Bay residents: does anyone
know of any alternative online or print letters
that deal with local politics in Oakland and/or
Berkeley. The Oaklandnews.com ceased as a regular
online publication with the unexpected demise of
Jeannette Sherwin in January. Jeannette weighed
about 400 pounds and very foolishly opted for a
dangerous bypass operation at Kaiser in Richmond,
which procedure my wife warned her against. Nina
is a medical writer. Jeannette could be very
stupid at times and went off on emotional tangents
such as total support of the Democratic Party and
endorsing Harry Edwards’ suggestion that all black
youth be put in concentration camps for the good
of the rest of us. She had been a victim of crime
as so many of us are and understandably had some
passionate feelings on the subject, what she
referred to as Oakland’s black plague.
Some of us involved in independent progressive
politics tried to keep her on the principled anti-
racist path but it wasn’t easy and she would not
countenance any dealings with Greens or people outside the Democratic Party. But she was good
on City Hall exposes and that’s badly needed
with people like Ignacio and Perata running dirty
back room deals. So any suggestions here are most
welcome. I personally would prefer a more Left
operation than Jeannette ran at Oaklandnews,
which was too centrist for many of us.
BUT NO PC TYPES PLEASE !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just wanted to thank the three people from this thread who have contacted me about continuing our
dialogue on another site. I think we will all be

One lesson I have learned is that you don’t deal

is very liberal (or was) made the mistake of thinking that you can reason with what Jeannette
referred to as the “mud people.” The folks at
the wrong end of the Bell Curve. I had warned
her that these “people” are not human and at
least 10 trillion years behind us on the evolutionary scale, well, she found out the
hard way. I salute the three people who have
agreed to carry on our intellectual, philosophical dialogue despite our disagreements.

In response to a number of requests I will periodically update my recommended reading
list for progressives, I appreciate the many
kind comments I have received, I have alerted
many people to the ITT website here and I haven’t
so much fun since I totally kicked ass on the
Nathaniel Branden website. Ted and another cretin whom I demolished later took their own lives, which was a decent thing for them to do.
We all benefit from an increase of the intelligent

I think the postings from the former Nathaniel Branden website by the police provocateur are amusing because even in the out-of-context manner in which he transmits the postings anyone can see that I get the better of every argument. Many of the people on the former Branden site were either psych patients of his or ex-Randroid groupies trying to come to grips with their cult worship. almost all were pro-war and pro-Bush, your basic rightwing neocon nuts. Now the police provocateur

A few years back, my partner and I bought a house near Highland Hospital. We started experiencing garbage dumped on our property, the same type every day. We finally caught someone in the act, but the person had no remorse. Our complaints to the OPD and DA’s office fell on deaf ears. We attempted to get a TRO but were unsuccessful, even though the harassment had escalated to serious property damage against my partner’s automobile. My partner complained to the live-in landlord of the offending tenant. After she had complained three or four times over that many months, the landlord got a TRO against my partner, which [Judge Julie] Conger then upheld for the maximum three years. The “witnesses” consisted of the person who for two years had dumped garbage on our property as well as other crimes, the then live-in girlfriend of the landlord whom my partner spoke to for a few seconds on one occasion, a former neighbor of ours from TWO YEARS EARLIER who had to be told by the OPD to not let her dog bark all night, and two personal friends of the landlord who were involved in the car repair business that he conducted out of his home.
We never got a chance to present rebuttal testimony. Conger promised she would hear that at a later date, but she never did. My partner has had to spend thousands of dollars appealing this to appellate courts. Judge Julie Conger is unfit to be on any bench or governmental body. She issues injunctions like water mainly to promote her own ideological agenda, which is white self-hate and gun control for noncriminals.

Just for the record, shorter sentences would still put 1 in 3 in jail.
Also, shorter sentences will not assist progress and may be counterproductive, but will hint that only a slap on the wirst is in the works so why not go ahead and break the law, you will be out soon enough.

that one has been out for several days, and
now page 6 has been out most of the day.
Frankly, there will be no complaints from me,

Yes, there’s blame to be placed, but where has all this discuss gotten us. Is there anything we can agree on? I think there is: lets identify what causes our blacks to get in prison in the first place, determine ways to help our communities and implement. Lets stop talking. No Micheal Hardesty, you PERSONALLY, OUT OF YOUR OWN PIGGY BANK, do not owe African Americans anything. INSTITUTIONALLY as whole, this country, the US of A, does owe African-Americans a HUGE debt. The civil rights work your wife did in the 60s is WELL appreciated - I returned the favor by volunteering during my youth at the Associated Jewish charities, actually spending time with elderly Jewish people who had no family (some due to the HOlocaust).
HOWEVER THERE IS SO MUCH MORE WORK TO BE DONE, as evidenced by some of the posts in this discussion. The gains of the civil rights movement occurred because the US was publicly shamed by the world at large during WWII for its treatment of African-Americans as a human rights violation and morality issue - basically you can’t dictate to Germany when look at how shamefully you treat your own people. AGAIN, KNOW HISTORY BEFORE YOU SPEAK.
The fact that your family are “recent” arrivals doesn’t absolve Irish Americans (who are European) of anything. Read the history of this country - the period after Reconstruction, was one of the bloodiest, repressive, oppresive and awful times for the “offcially emancipated” African Americans. And the IRISH sure sided with the “white” people when they got here.
And guess what else during this same time period that you’re quoting? The Irish were allowed in this country as labor to DISPLACE AFRICAN-AMERICANS already here; the Irish themselves were trying to ESCAPE OPPRESSION, FAMINE AND RACISM FROM THE ENGLISH. Once here in the US and only here in the US, the Irish became “White”. (This only means that in the US, if you aren’t of African descent, you now become “White” with its privledges.)
In Ireland, sheep displaced the Irish off the land that they farmed for rich landowners. (Settlement Act, The Penal Codes and Catholicism, The Great Famine.) Hmmm…I think the Irish are still fighting now….? DO YOU KNOW YOUR HISTORY? I make it my business to know yours and mine. Many of the same arguements you give about African-Americans and their supposed criminality, etc. were used against the Irish both in Ireland, England and the US when your family immigrated here…how things change and stay the same.
Listen Michael Hardesty and crew, African-Americans would much prefer a TRUE LEVEL-PLAYING FIELD, REAL EQUAL OPPORTUNITY AND EQUAL TREATMENT UNDER THE LAW AND ALL INSTITUTIONS IN THIS COUNTRY, rather than blood money, which is a little different from welfare. Enron, MCI, big business in general receives PLENTY of welfare - go ask them for your money back!

that were on both sides of the Civil War.
If Irish today were committing the volume of crimes that blacks routinely do, they would and
should be profiled. If I was handling airport
security I would certain be warier of a Saudi

Personally I support the Palestinians and my
wife tends to be slightly more pro-Israeli.
But I think their suicide bomber tactics have
been totally counterproductive and have only

The whole concept of equality and level playing
fields is a myth and a fraud, whether on an
individual or group level. How am I equal to
the Rockefellers or Kennedys ? Only in a VERY
narrow legal sense does equality have any meaning
and even there if you have funds to hire a better
attorney you get better representation, that is
just objective reality.
I’m mystified as to what else you think we should
do legislatively with the State alreading dictating to us in all private businesses, hiring,
whom you can serve, whom you can sell your house
to, etc.
I do know a bit about Irish history and the English land grabs but it wasn’t the topic soI didn’t expound on it. White people in Europe lived
in serfdom for hundreds of years too. Not to

I wanted to add something to your comments about
the US Govt’s (Cold War) motives for advocating
civil rights. I think it was one of many travesties done under the color of law and fighting Communism that worked to decrease freedom
over here. The state segregation laws should have
been declared unconstitutional from the get-go, I
assume we agree here. But this could have been
done without any push for forced integration,
excepting only government owned buildings which
are subsidized by all the taxpayers and should
not be able to discriminate, so the local or states rights argument never appealed to me.
The Irish are white so naturally they would
identify easier with other whites than blacks,
particularly in a conflict situation. But the
idea that they stole jobs from blacks is ludicrous, at the time they came over blacks

One other point to Ingrid, the very widespread
complaint about affirmative action is that it is precisely the incompetents that are being rewarded
due to race quotas or whatever the current euphemism is. So we agree here that the competent
ought to be rewarded over the less competent but
it’s precisely the programs that you have advocated that are causing this horrible situation
of people advancing on their race, rather than
merit. I know of some professional blacks who resent affirmative action because it is assumed

I think it’s a mistake to premise the discussion

observation and then come to modest, manageable
general conclusions. And those conclusions can

I think it is worthwhile to converse with my fellow intellectuals, my fellow philosophers,
my fellow creators and fellow geniuses. Like
you I have to insist that any debaters be at least in the three digit IQ range.
I also insist that any debaters be literate, know
basic rules of english and how to punctuate, when
to use capital letters, be civil, intelligent
and know basic rules of Aristotelian logic,
what constitutes an argument and what is an
invalid ad hominem attack. Like you, Ingrid, I
insist on only associating with my higher class
of people and not foul smelling gutter riffraff
whose intellects are low & whose smegna odor is
high. We intellectuals are the real longrange
rulers of the world of ideas, which ultimately
means the world itself. We should not contaminate
our most valuable selves by associating with or
responding to what Nietzsche called the untermenschen.

Query to fellow East Bay residents: does anyone
know of any alternative online or print letters
that deal with local politics in Oakland and/or
Berkeley. The Oaklandnews.com ceased as a regular
online publication with the unexpected demise of
Jeannette Sherwin in January. Jeannette weighed
about 400 pounds and very foolishly opted for a
dangerous bypass operation at Kaiser in Richmond,
which procedure my wife warned her against. Nina
is a medical writer. Jeannette could be very
stupid at times and went off on emotional tangents
such as total support of the Democratic Party and
endorsing Harry Edwards’ suggestion that all black
youth be put in concentration camps for the good
of the rest of us. She had been a victim of crime
as so many of us are and understandably had some
passionate feelings on the subject, what she
referred to as Oakland’s black plague.
Some of us involved in independent progressive
politics tried to keep her on the principled anti-
racist path but it wasn’t easy and she would not
countenance any dealings with Greens or people outside the Democratic Party. But she was good
on City Hall exposes and that’s badly needed
with people like Ignacio and Perata running dirty
back room deals. So any suggestions here are most
welcome. I personally would prefer a more Left
operation than Jeannette ran at Oaklandnews,
which was too centrist for many of us.
BUT NO PC TYPES PLEASE !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just wanted to thank the three people from this thread who have contacted me about continuing our
dialogue on another site. I think we will all be
better off exchanging our ideas and not having

One lesson I have learned is that you don’t deal

is very liberal (or was) made the mistake of thinking that you can reason with what Jeannette

the wrong end of the Bell Curve. I had warned
her that these “people” are not human and at
least 10 trillion years behind us on the evolutionary scale, well, she found out the
hard way. I salute the three people who have
agreed to carry on our intellectual, philosophical dialogue despite our disagreements.

apology. My real name is not Stan, I have been
a paid informer for AIPAC, ADL and the OPD as
well as various federal agencies for many years.
I actually helped the cops entrap and kill Black
Panthers over thirty years ago. What my assignment
is is to troll on various boards on the web and
as soon as any criticism of Israel comes up I’m
to make nonstop ad hominem attacks as well as any intelligent Left criticism of identity politics
(special pandering to black racism and sociopathology that has so crippled the Left
in the minds of middle America). What I do is
extract selected bits of postings, always leave
out the full context and rebuttals then use an
ad hominem attack with a lot of heated overkill
rhetoric and profanity to attempt to smear the
person I have been ASSIGNED to target. This is
the fourth time I have tried and failed to smear Michael Hardesty. You know I am desperate when I

I fully accept Stan’s apology and also want to

Many intelligent negroes appreciate what I have

Foundation (KPFA) for The WAshington Post in their
prestigious Sunday Editorial Outlook Section in
late October, 1993 (1 1/2 million circulation)
as well as my published stories and book reviews
for The East Bay Express, the Anderson Valley
ADvertiser, The Progressive, The National Guardian
(NY) and other published venues. Not to mention
dozens of letters to the editors published over
the years. Oh, a dozen full length articles
published in the Anderson Valley Advertiser.
I have decided to become very active on all the

We finally caught someone in the act, but the person had no remorse. Our complaints to the OPD and DA’s office fell on deaf ears. We attempted to get a TRO but were unsuccessful, even though the harassment had escalated to serious property damage against my partner’s automobile. My partner complained to the live-in landlord of the offending tenant. After she had complained three or four times over that many months, the landlord got a TRO against my partner, which [Judge Julie] Conger then upheld for the maximum three years. The “witnesses” consisted of the person who for two years had dumped garbage on our property as well as other crimes, the then live-in girlfriend of the landlord whom my partner spoke to for a few seconds on one occasion, a former neighbor of ours from TWO YEARS EARLIER who had to be told by the OPD to not let her dog bark all night, and two personal friends of the landlord who were involved in the car repair business that he conducted out of his home.
We never got a chance to present rebuttal testimony. Conger promised she would hear that at a later date, but she never did. My partner has had to spend thousands of dollars appealing this to appellate courts. Judge Julie Conger is unfit to be on any bench or governmental body. She issues injunctions like water mainly to promote her own ideological agenda, which is white self-hate and gun control for noncriminals.
