Those dissing Chavez should realize that almost anyone living in US "liberated" Iraq would give their right nut to live in Venezuela. Without any doubt he is the most popular leader in all of the America's. erikvilius.blogspot.com

Anyone want to bet that Venezuela's election was a lot cleaner than a typical Chicago or Cook County one. Even Jay Cline wouldn't want to wager on that... hehe erikvilius.blogspot.com

Pure Jay Cline nonsense. Chavez got around 63% of the vote, a little more than other leftists Lula and Correa (around 60%) won with a couple of weeks before him. The fact is Chavez had no need to cheat - and he didn't. What Cline and other neocons don't like is that Latin America has chosen an independent path away from US domination and globalization. To bad for him and his crowd because more is to come.

Russian xenophobia is being stoked more by outside actors than by anything internal. When you have the US, EU, & Nato trying to pick off former republics, then what else can you expect. The realpolitique of the situation is that Russia is a superpower on its way back whether the world likes it or not.

I find it ironic that David Irving sits in jail for provoking historical sensibilities while Rose, Pipes, and the rest of the neocon crowd go on their merry ways to even better stir the "clash of civilizations". Irving may be a fool, but fools should be ridiculed - not jailed. Rose, Pipes, and the neocons are the real danger - war criminals who deserve their day at the Hague.

Chavez has significantly improved the lives of the majority of people in a country dominated for years by mercantile capitalism. The Neo-cons who criticise him must be as dense as Dick Cheney's bunker... why do you think he has approval ratings between 70 - 80% throughout Latin America ? The revolution taking place there will last far longer than the rising price of oil.

Tina says... The Top 1% Pay More Than a Third of All Income Taxes: 34.27% Answer... True, but you fail to mention that they also own 40 -45% of all wealth. In fact Bill Gates wealth alone is more than the bottom 40% of all Americans combined. Looks like someone's not paying their share... and it isn't the poor.

Harry Belafonte said that 10's of millions of Americans support Chavez and he was right. What is more surprising is that people who like Chavez are not confined to Hispanics, African Americans, or the Left - but to millions of conservatives like myself who like nothing better than someone standing up to the Neocons and their goal of American empire.

If I were a descendent of Southern planters I would rightfully have a sense of white guilt. Being that my ancestors roots were from Eastern Europe my concerns lie with their own serfdom in the hands of rich and powerful elites of the time. White guilt should only be spread to those who deserve it.

People from the South are very proud of their heritage and rightfully so. Honor, chivalry, patriotism, and a living warrior spirit are some of the first things a Southerner will tell you about when you start exchanging life stories. Unfortunately the GOP and the neo-cons have saw fit to manipulate these values to their own benefit and promote a war where a disproportionate amount of casualties come from this region of the country. But watch out GOP a true Southerner will only be patronized for so long...

I happen to be a conservative who is not willing to sacrifice the poor and middle class of this country to the gods of globalization. Instead of focusing rants on moribund unions it would be more cogent to examine of the power of the plutocracy in this country. When the top 1% of the population own 40% of the wealth of any nation it is critical to discuss the role of private as well as governmental power.

As for Mr Moberg's article let me add that the GOP witch's brew of Wall Street, Neo-cons, and Left Behinders has been more toxic for the US and the world than any WMD that could have been found in Iraq.

Tina asks... Why are liberals obsessed with how much money rich people have? Answer... Actually it's more the power that concentrated wealth confers that almost most people are concerned about. That includes conservatives as well as liberals. Conservatives like Pat Buchanan and Kevin Phillips are some of the sharpest critics of big business and corporate power.

Tina asks... And why are liberals so obsessed with taking money from the rich and passing it around to everyone else? Answer... Most of the tax money that is "passed around" goes to the businesses that are contracted for the military, medical or social services and the infrastructures ( police, roads, etc. ) that we all use on a daily basis. The business classes are the biggest benefactors of this arrangement - because without it they would be unable to produce wealth by themselves. By the way the wealthier are getting even wealthier and not the other way around.

Tina asks... Why do liberals always complain about the economy ... and why do they always act like there is no opportunities in America? Answer... Everyone complains about the economy at some time. During the Clinton years it was the GOP saying that he was making us into a nation of "hamburger flippers" in spite of 23 million new jobs produced over this period. What the GOP meant was the quality of jobs and pay was going down at the time... and they were correct. Right now the same thing is happening - minus Clinton's job creation.

Tina says... It amazes me when I hear someone complain about lack of opportunities in America. If opportunties are lacking, why are so many little motels, convientent stores, video stores, laundries owned by Middle Eastern and Orientals? ... who came to America with virtually nothing. Answer... All economies are like swiss cheese, some with bigger holes than others. As for the ethnic networks you refer to most of those are owned and subsidized by wealthier interests from their native countries. Banks from India are heavily into Dunkin Donuts for instance - thats why you see so many of them with South …
