The idea that "Not much has changed since Reinaldo Arenas’ time. " is so bizarre that it couldn't possibly have been written in Cuba. One wonders where that idea came from? My guess would be Miami. It's true that there are no officially-sanctioned explicitly sanctioned LGBT oranizations and institutions in Cuba. As a member of PFLAG (Parents Families an Friends of Lesbians and Gays) in the United States, I think it would be better if there were. Thanks for posting this article. It's thoughtful and nuanced. Particularly I appreciate your recognition that the fundamental decisions about Cuba and its future has to be made in Cuba by the people who live there. Others who reside elsewhere can have opinions, but it's the Cubans on the island who have to make the final decisions.
