I've been shouting this message for quite a while. the support of the public is critical for us in the labor movement, to try to advance without it is pointless. The message we have is good but the delivery needs to be changed. We are workers for workers, that's it. the time to "demand" from everyone is over, the time for us to stand on our own two feet is here. Greg; you are way off base in comparing college educated to trust fund babies, you had better take another look. and while militant fighting is just and appropriate, how has it been working for the last three decades? Rich; I respectfully disagree on pushing a political culture, we have been pushing that for years to no avail. it's time we as union members stand up on our own two feet and quit riding on the coat tails of politicians. Brother Rich; I'm confused, I cannot think of one labor leader who has not come up through the ranks. I'm not nitpicking but i am serious. I think we can all agree on one thing, we have a serious leadership problem. Did you know that after the great depression ended in '32 Unions grew at the astonishing rate of 160% between '33 and '38? I'm terribly afraid we are going to miss a golden opportunity to prove the value of our unions to the rest of the workers.
