    As a couple of people have already pointed out, the zero we use today was discovered in India. Not just zero, but in fact the basis of algebra too. It is credited to the Arabs because that was from whom the Europeans received it. However, as Al Khwarizmi himself states in his treatise on Algebra much of the material he was presenting was based on earlier Hindu (Indian) work. Florian Cajori, in his book a History of Mathematics states pretty much the same thing. Just to set another record straight. cheers
