key quotes from the videotape
Michael Brown: "This is probably the big one I think"
AP report: “President Bush was dialed into that briefing from his ranch in Crawford, Texas…but the president doesn’t ask any questions and just four days later tells ABC News that no one could have predicted the scope of this storm…[Bush:]’I don't think anybody anticipated the breach of the levees.’ [Reporter:] A seemingly direct contradiction to what is said in the briefing.”
Max Mayfield, Hurricane Center Director: “I don’t think anyone can tell you with any degree of confidence right now whether the levees will be topped or not, but that’s obviously a very very grave concern.”
Max Mayfield, Hurricane Center Director, "This is a category 5 hurricane, very similar to Hurricane Andrew in the maximum intensity but there is a big big difference. This hurricane is much larger than Andrew ever was...I also want to make absolutely clear to everyone the great potential for large loss of life is still in the coastal areas from the storm surge.”
AP reporter: “Brown also voices concern over the so-called shelter of last resort, the New Orleans Superdome, another fear that would in time prove accurate. [Brown:] “I also am concerned about that roof, I don’t know if that roof is designed to withstand a cat 5 hurricane.”

Interesting how fact, even now, fails to inspire an adequate response.
Hey, has anyone wondered about the “Release of Gitmo Detainee Identities” story…we keep hearing about how they’ve released these 490 names, but I can’t find a working site that lists the actual names.
I guess tomorrow is another day, la de da, and all that….
Hey, have you heard the one about 2 families in the Carolinas that opposed the true account of male penguins who adopted an abandoned egg at the zoo?
It turns out that the homophobia of these families swayed the access to this childrens story in a small town…..
amazing but true!
An adequate response? I’ve never liked Howard Dean… and after his very public fall from grace he (still) was made leader of the DNC. Big mistaka, ya mon. Blame HIM!
The only opposition you have right now is Hillary addressing the gender issue in her direct/indirect confrontation with Karl Rove. And that’s beautiful!
Watching the movie “North Country” the other night, I was struck by the timetable of events portrayed… beginning with the Anita Hill testimony in the Clarence Thomas confirmation hearings. Seems like decades ago, but really, it was only yesterday in terms of where we are now - at least in the hinterland that is the belly of the beast that liberals must slay - a fight that is exemplified by the recent abortion ban attempt in South Dakota.
Now, I believe there is much iron in this strategy forged most recently into sword by Hillary in opposition to the neo-conservative gender based assaults on her - and women in general - and I admit to suddenly becoming politically aroused with this idea of making such a confrontation the principle driving force. I also like the idea of forging the entity of a new Religious Left at the same time while letting key democratic leaders attack separate issues. There’s political gold in “them thar” hills methinks—or was it only a movie?
Sorry for the poorly written editorial, but there didn’t seem to be much response otherwise.
