ripped from the headlines
Watching "Law and Order: Criminal Intent"--a doctor who helped to torture victims at Guantanamo is now confessing that applying those torture techniques to a patient turned him into a killer. From the mouths of cops: "torture changed him."
A sharp contrast to "Law & Order" shows a few years ago, which depicted anti-war journalists as cynical and unpatriotic manipulators, and Muslim families as oppressive and immoral.
A hopeful sign? Or just market forces at work?

yeah, I think this is probably a good sign…recently, Law and Order SVU had a super-intense episode that involved bio-terrorism and a government cover-up (and a sexual assault, kidnapping..it was action packed). Anyway, journalist in the show was at first depicted as some hard-boiled, self-abosrbed, anti-government, foolish individual…as the show ended, however, he was shown to be courageous in his pursuit of the truth at any cost—even his own freedom.
I think with Bush’s approval ratings dropping to amazingly low levels, and with dissatisfaction with the economy, the war…life under Bush in general, really..the anti-war/pro-peace “radicals” and pro-freedom “liberals” of a couple years ago are looking increasingly less “radical” and more and more in-tune with what a growing number of Americans are thinking and feeling.
My own guess is that most Americans have never given up their belief in liberty and freedom; its just we were frightened into (temporary) acquiesence. But..that can only last so long. We’re seeing definite signs of change.
My favorite show is still the one about nothing… it’s only television, after all.
I see this as the corporate interests turning on the Iraqi occupation because it’s bad for business, and they are now allowing the corporate owned mainstream media to cover the dissent. They did this with Vietnam too. I would not be surprised if they started using tv shows as well which might be the case this with this program. Who knows?

in the beginning those who knew the Tao did not try to enlighten others,
but kept them in the dark.
why is it so hard to rule?
because people are so clever.
rulers who try to use cleverness
cheat the country.
those who rule without cleverness
are a blessing to the land.
these are the two alternatives.
understanding these is Primal Virtue.
Primal Virtue is deep & far.
it leads all things back
toward the great oneness.
(a little v.65, for luminous beauty…)
