As the media stampedes from lead story to lead story, it is wise to find the stories being lost in all the dust the herd kicks up. In fact, some stories are seemingly thrown in the path so that they are lost in the cloud of thundering hooves. One fine source to find those trampled stories is on the Web site of Air America's early morning host, Rachel Maddow.

Here are a few that you might have missed:

The National Guard's top commander said that with most of its best equipment in Iraq the guard has only about a third of what it needs for homeland security.

President waves a couple restrictions on a little country called Libya so U.S. companies can help them disarm. No word yet on which crony company will get the contract.

President Bush pardons 14.

The head of U.S. Customs and Border Protection announced his resignation. So, he's gone, along with the head of FEMA, I guess the Department of Homeland Security has some choice positions open for more of the administration's college buddies and contributors.

Apparently the rules of Bill Frist's blind trust allowed him to direct the sale of his total holdings of a particular stock. Not exactly "blind" and makes you wonder about how Dick Cheney's blind trust is doing.
