Militant gays…now there’s an oxymoron, at least in my experience. My gay friends are the least militant folks I could imagine. They’re just people who want to lead a normal life—you know, raise their gardens, their children if they’ve got ‘em, contribute to society. They desire no special treatment, simply just to be acknowledged as real human beings with the same rights as you and me.
I’m not sure what to think about McCain, but I am one who wishes Leiberman would just admit he’s a Republican and give us all a break.

Live in D.C. for more than four years, and you’ll see there are few worthy politicians any more. McCain and Leiberman are about the two left with any decency in the Senate. Not sure ANY remain in the House. Both sides only hear the shrill from the far left or the far right. Thanks for your wise words, Pheadrus. Unfortunately this thread has become nasty, and yes, hateful to the point of pointlessness. I agree that generally speaking, liberals and progressives don’t wallow in the same level of hatred and negativity as the cons…but as we can see from the writings of some of “our own”, the dark negativity does manifest on our side as well. I struggle with it at times myself. Sometimes I wonder if we shouldn’t be meaner, nastier, it seems to work for them. But I don’t want to become what they are, I don’t want that for any of us. Spiraling into hatred goes against what we stand for. Again I’m generalizing, I know…but I do know that hurling insults, tempting as it may be, does no good whatsoever. What we need is…hell I don’t know. Still trying to figure that out.

We also have the aforementioned outbursts from Al Franken. Janeane Garofalo called evangelical Christians a bunch of dicks. Then there is this example: Hundreds of posters on Indymedia and Democratic Underground last June partied and pissed on a dead man’s grave when Ronald Reagan passed away. PS: The reality is that Al Franken’s rating share is higher than Limbaugh, Hannity and O’Reilly in almost every market Franken is in. In West Palm Beach (Rush Limbaugh’s home town), Randy Rhodes as been burying in the ratings for a almost a decade.
