Obama retires
"I figure there's nowhere to go from here but down. So tonight, I'm announcing my retirement from the United States Senate." - Barack Obama
This can only increase specualtion that he's gearing up to run in 2008.

huh???
I don’t get the joke.
What the heck!? I’ve checked a variety of other websites after reading this, and not a one has a peep about Obama’s resignation. And how could he resign from a position that he has not even taken yet? Doesn’t he start that job in January? He does not strike me as the type that would back away from this job.
you three are idiots
Thanks, Aaron. You made my day. I might even make it to work on time tomorrow.
Okay, so I didn’t get the joke…apparently I’ve lost my sense of humor—actually I don’t think I’ve laughed since Nov 2nd. So let’s see…still trying to “get it”...nope.
watch out for obama—he is likely a trojan horse. He was being by the DLC and the Wall St Journal. He has said he will not support protectionist trade. He is a neoliberal.
What an unused opportunity…only two blacks have served in the U.S. Senate since Reconstruction. Although he would make a good contender for ‘08, which could change history in a far grander way. Without a doubt he has experience and street cred.
All of the above is true. It’s still a good joke.
Three people are sitting in a bar, Steph, a rabbi, a priest and an atheist…
There’s a Time and Place for Skepticism
During the Reign of Terror of the French Revolution, one morning’s executions began with three men: a rabbi, a Catholic priest, and a rationalist skeptic.
The rabbi was marched up onto the platform first. There, facing the guillotine, he was asked if he had any last words. And the rabbi cried out, “I believe in the one and only true God, and He shall save me.” The executioner then positioned the rabbi below the blade, set the block above his neck, and pulled the cord to set the terrible instrument in motion. The heavy cleaver plunged downward, searing the air. But then, abruptly, it stopped with a crack just a few inches above the would-be victim’s neck. To which the rabbi said, “I told you so.”
“It’s a miracle!” gasped the crowd. And the executioner had to agree, letting the rabbi go.
Next in line was the priest. Asked for his final words, he declared, “I believe in Jesus Christ…the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost…who will rescue me in my hour of need.” The executioner then positioned this man beneath the blade. And he pulled the cord. Again the blade flew downward…thump! creak!...stopping just short of its mark once more.
“Another miracle!” sighed the disappointed crowd. And the executioner for the second time had no choice but to let the condemned go free.
Now it was the skeptic’s turn. “What final words have you to say?” he was asked. But the skeptic didn’t hear. Staring intently at the ominous engine of death, he seemed lost. Not until the executioner poked him in the ribs and the question was asked again did he reply.
“Oh, I see your problem,” the skeptic said pointing. “You’ve got a blockage in the gear assembly, right there!”
Snort! Snort!
Thanks Jerry.
Thanks, Jerry—I finally laughed! aaahhhh, what a release…;-)
The resignation was a joke he made on Letterman when he was plugging his book.
There’s always the presidency, although considering the current occupant, one can see why that office might not be assumed to be a step up from the Senate.
Tuesday, the Illinois State Senate bid a fond farewell to former State Senator and U.S. Senator-elect Barak Obama (D- Chicago). Senator-elect Obama resigned his State Senate seat to focus on the transition to serving as a United States Senator. First elected to the Illinois State Senate in 1997, Senator Obama was noted for his intelligence, articulate advocation of his beliefs, common-sense, and friendliness. Senator Obama often set the example for how everyone can disagree without being disagreeable. On behalf of everyone at IRMA for whom it has been a pleasure to get to know Senator Obama, we wish him every success in his new role.
With the resignation of Senator-elect Obama from the Illinois State Senate, a vacancy was created in the 13th Senate District. The local Democrat Committeemen quickly filled that vacancy. Their choice was Kwame Raoul who emerged from a field of eight applicants. Senator Raoul is a former Cook County prosecutor and lifelong resident of the South Side of Chicago. He has been politically active in the past having sought on two different occasions, a seat on the Chicago City Council and the 12th State Senate seat. On behalf of everyone at IRMA, we extend our warmest welcome and best wishes for every success to Senator Raoul. Haitian Immigrant’s Son Kwame Raoul to replace Barack Obama in Illinois
HYDE PARK, ILLINOIS - While many Blacks around the world still “cheered”
Barack Obama as the first African-American elected to the United States Senate
in the 21st Century, and the fifth one in US history to serve in the nation’s
highest legislative body.
Since last Saturday, Haitians in Illinois are very proud because the son of
Haitian-born immigrants Marie Therese Raoul and late Janin Raoul, M.D.,
Kwame Raoul, was appointed by the Democrats to lead the 13th District as its new
state Senator, filling the seat left vacant by Obama.
