Now folks…behave on those bicycles

By Phoebe Connelly
Last night the NYPD sent a gentle reminder to bicyclists at the RNC:

"It is not out desire to summons or arrest your members," Chief Scagnelli said in a letter to Transportation Alternatives Executive Director Paul S. White. "Therefore, we request Transportation Alternatives, a wonderful organization that has the same lawful desires as the Police Department, to notify its members of this situation, so that those who wish to continue to ride with "critical mass" will obey all traffic, administrative and penal laws, and will understand that if laws are broken, violators will be summonsed or arrested."

In the same spirit of Al Franken’s call for everyone to shout, I have formulated my own convenient means of protest during next week’s RNC (not far from where I work). Since I’m female, unimposing, and generally look like I know where I’m going, I am often asked for directions. When any obvious Republicans ask next week, I will be sure to misdirect them to any number of flaming gay bars, Planned Parenthood, a feminist knitting circle, or wherever/whatever I think they really need the most. They’ve been telling me what I need and misdirecting the country for years now. It’s my turn.

Sounds like the NYPD is worried.
