NY Times Publishes Redacted Op-Ed But Provides Public Domain Citations of Blacked-Out Portions

By Brian Zick
The blithering idiots in the Bush administration clearly have no imagination. Although the CIA had cleared Flynt Leverett's op-ed for public consumption, the White House, in an attempt to hinder publication, decided to censor portions it deemed to be classified - although the information was already in the public domain.

And the New York Times gets to have it both ways. In publishing the op-ed, the Times accedes to the White House censorship of certain parts, actually blacking out the text. But it separately provides the very information which the White House censored, in a list of citations to public domain documents which have already revealed the material.

Redacted version of op-ed by Flynt Leverett and Hillary Mann.
