I would offer another exception. He doesn't appear to be a huge facilitator of the exportation of jobs. I understand why unions are unhappy, but job losses were "baked into the cake" before Obama took office. The housing bubble temporarily replaced those outsourced jobs and created a borrowed economy. The bubble provided the illusion that the loss of permanent jobs didn't matter. It also provided a domestic demand, through building and home equity loans, for those cheaper imported goods. The stock market did well, the 401k's did well, and the union people (and others with job benefits), were quite happy as long as the Dow and the Nasdaq looked good on paper. I do hope their children come home to live with them during their retirement.
We live in a country where inflation is an explicitly stated goal. Helicopter Ben Bernanke got his nickname when he testified before Congress, over a decade ago, that he would "drop money from helicopters" before he allowed deflation to occur. That was what the Congress wanted to hear. He got the job when it was vacated by Greenspan. In the words of Maya Angelou "when someone shows you who they are, believe them".
However, when it comes to adjusting the amount of money that is provided to Social Security and welfare recipients, food and energy costs aren't included with the inflation rate. Why? Because the US Congress doesn't care about the poor. Inflation is the cruelest tax, but where are the Republicans to be found that are crying about that tax? No, the only thing that will loosen up their purse strings is fear. Only then will the crumbs will be sprinkled--in the name of compassion.
Republicans Deserve their share of the blame, but with the exception of his (recent) support of gay marriage, Obama is ideologically identical to Romney. He has governed as advocate for big business, of wal st and finace capital especially, the most reactionary sector of all. Hes expanded Bushes imperrialist wars and extended his tax cuts. Hes facillitating, and abetting the continued growth of the massive American Police state. Frankly why the hell would anyone whos paying attention care if obama is relected or not.?
