Ground the Drones

It's time for the peace movement to challenge the president's foreign policies.

By Medea Benjamin

Foreign policy played a minor role in a presidential election that focused on jobs, jobs, jobs. But like it or not, the United States is part of a global community in turmoil, and U.S. policies often fuel that turmoil. [RETURN TO ARTICLE]

They also create funerals for terrorists.  How quickly we forget that which should never be forgotten,

As well as turn weddings into funerals, and innocent children into char.

You can place the blame squarely on the terrorists for that.  If they weren’t cowards, surrounding themselves with innocent civilians, it would rarely occur.

I challenge the fact that there are any innocent civilians. Would you stand next to a target at a shooting range?

Drones are killing thousands of civilians? I really would doubt that without accurate statistics. Of course innocent people are being killed. Hellfire missiles used by drones are laser guided and are not area weapons. Also, there is absolutely no evidence that Obama will join Israel in any strike on Iran.

You also have to take into account that if unpiloted drones were not available, American strike aircraft would more than likely hunt the same targets instead. What’s the difference between using a Reaper or an F-16? Its cheaper to use drones and negates the risk to the pilot. Nevertheless, if there was no drone technology, something else would be used in its place.

If your point as regards the drones is that we must broaden our demands to include a halt in using strike aircraft in those situations as well, I agree with you.  If your point is that we citizens should simply throw up our hands and do nothing, then I stonily disagree.

What is the administration’s criteria for acceptable innocent loss by drone strike?

Posted by seamus37 on Nov 28, 2012 at 1:01 PM

The targets are often innocent too. Plus, how do the innocents know they’re beside a target at that very instant?

    Start here:
Petition the obama administration to: Stop the drone strikes.

    Drones and Innocence   ?.?.?.?

Is the engineer who design it - innocent ??

Is the worker that builds it - innocent ??

Is the person that arms it - innocent ??

Is the person who sits back and pushes the button, that
    lunches it - innocent ??

Is the person standing in the wrong place at the wrong time
    - innocent   ??

. . THE question - is do you think any of these people could
    change it ???

    WHO says NO ???
to a degree everyone follows orders / and that’s their savior - just following orders…
NAZI’s just following orders ??  Kill or be Killed

    the chicken or the egg…

A child,  tries everyday to prove they are grown up
    . . . . Till the day they are grown-up and
...........they stop trying to prove - - -  what is fact…...
just a thought - don’t mind me - thinking to myself

Drones take care of problems that would otherwise put US troops in danger. Their use should have adequate oversight, and they need to be more precise, such as using a large drone to drop small drones with real-time video flight and detonation control and face recognition capability so they go off in front of the right face, specifically, anyone who claims the right to impose religion or other cultural “traditions” on others.

Ten years from now drone delivery of pizza, groceries, mail, packages, etc. will be commonplace and we will wonder how we ever got along without it. Peer-to-peer communication devices on drones, smart phones, and other devices that treat every packet as a virus and accept no executables will be immune from hacking and government interference. Anyone who does not work in a factory or in one of the few remaining brick-and-mortar outlets will teleconference from home. Traffic will be a thing of the past. A trip to local markets to buy locally made products will be a treat instead of a hassle.

Technology is progress as long as it is not controlled by the rich.
