In These Times hires labor reporter Micah Uetricht as web editor

CHICAGO—In These Times, a national progressive magazine, welcomes Micah Uetricht as the publication's new web editor. Uetricht, a labor reporter and former contributing editor to the magazine, joins In These Times after serving as web editor at Jacobin, a socialist print and web magazine covering politics, economics and culture. While at Jacobin, Uetricht oversaw tremendous traffic growth, expanded Jacobin’s social media reach and edited such popular pieces as "Beyond Fast Food Strikes," by Trish Kahle.

After graduating from Loyola University Chicago in 2009, Uetricht worked in the Chicago labor movement, most recently as an organizer with Arise, an interfaith worker justice center. Earlier this year, Uetricht published his first book: Strike for America: Chicago Teachers Against Austerity (Verso), an account of the historic 2012 Chicago teachers' strike. He will oversee all editorial aspects of InTheseTimes.com, including Working In These Times, a blog dedicated to covering the struggle for workers' rights.

"In These Times is a vital voice in progressive media—and no one covers the American labor movement better," Uetricht says. "And it's the magazine that gave me my start as a writer in 2009, when I was an editorial intern, and has shaped me ever since. So it's fitting that I'm returning as web editor."

Uetricht will be taking over the web editor position from Jessica Stites, who held the position since 2012 and will now be taking on an expanded role editing In These Times' print magazine as deputy editor.

Stites says of Uetricht's hire, "We couldn’t be more thrilled to bring Micah on board. As the leading source for independent labor reporting, Working In These Times will greatly benefit from Micah's deep knowledge of the labor movement (or, as he describes it, his 'borderline obsession') and his sharp editorial eye."
