Photos from this afternoon's protests for now. Words on the protests and abbreviated convention to follow later tonight…. Five shots from street clashes between members of the RNC Welcoming Committee and police along Kellogg Blvd. in downtown St. Paul. A handful of arrests, glass bottles thrown over heads of swat cops, multiple tear gas canisters shot (blue smoke), all while the National Guard held a rear position along Wabasha St. hundreds of feet behind the clash line…. Earlier in the afternoon, the central protest proceeded peacefully through the city. I estimated perhaps 8,000-10,000 walked from the St. Paul capitol to the Excel Center and back. The only property damage I saw, although I am told a glass storefront was smashed:
