Bush v Thomas

Brian Zick

Crooks and Liars has video showing this morning's mismatch with Bush's inaccuracy-laced response to a question from Helen Thomas update: Josh Marshall has a response to Bush's rather monumental falsehood answering the question posed by Thomas. This is what Bush said: "I also saw a threat in Iraq. I was hoping to solve this problem diplomatically. That's why I went to the Security Council; that's why it was important to pass 1441, which was unanimously passed. And the world said, disarm, disclose, or face serious consequences … and therefore, we worked with the world, we worked to make sure that Saddam Hussein heard the message of the world. And when he chose to deny inspectors, when he chose not to disclose, then I had the difficult decision to make to remove him. And we did, and the world is safer for it." Josh observes: "Of course, that's not what happened. We were there. We remember. It wasn't a century ago. We got the resolution passed. Saddam called our bluff and allowed the inspectors in. President Bush pressed ahead with the invasion. " --- Now, it seems to me that there are only two possibilities to explain Bush's falsity. Either the president was simply bald-faced lying his ass off. Or he's totally delusional. So put aside the overwhelming volume of evidence that supports the contention of willful dishonesty, and let's concede for the sake of argument that Bush did not lie, that he really really really does believe what he just said. So then, instead of polling about the censure motion, what if ARG and Zogby and Rasmussen all started asking the public its opinion about invoking Clause 4 of the 25th Amendment - and removing the president from office due to mental incapacity?
