Department of Defense Is “Studying” Blogs

Brian Zick

William J. Sharp for the Air Force Office of Scientific Research Public Affairs has announced that The Air Force Office of Scientific Research recently began funding a new research area that includes a study of blogs. Dr. Brian E. Ulicny, senior scientist, and Dr. Mieczyslaw M. Kokar, president, Versatile Information Systems Inc., Framingham, Mass., will receive approximately $450,000 in funding for the 3-year project entitled “Automated Ontologically-Based Link Analysis of International Web Logs for the Timely Discovery of Relevant and Credible Information.” Josh Marshall posts his reaction, and suggests some links the Air Force might study. Not a bad gig. $150,000 a year to read great stuff like this and this and this and this and this and this and this and this and, oh yes, this. Well, and this and this and this too. I suppose it could also be calculated as $8333.33 per year per word in the title of the study.
