George Felix Allen, Proud Wannabe Confederate Face of the GOP

Allen's little racist slur has been getting some attention. The WaPo editors Josh Marshall Dave Johnson at Seeing the Forest Jane Hamsher at firedoglake Jeffrey Feldman at dailykos Steve Gilliard Steve Clemons thinks Allen is the big GOP target that Dems should be running against. Because he would be easier to run against than McCain. If I understand Steve's reasoning correctly, he thinks that a two-pronged strategy of embracing McCain and attacking Allen will cause the GOP base to react in diametric opposition to both Dem positions, that they'll run to Allen's aid and that they'll despise McCain.
