Greg Mitchell at E&P reports 'Wash Post' Obtains Shocking Memo from U.S. Embassy in Baghdad, Details Increasing Danger and Hardship.
A cable marked "sensitive" was sent to the Secretary of State in Washington, D.C. from "AMEmbassy Baghdad" on June 6, the subject being "Snapshots from the Office -- Public Affairs Staff Show Strains of Social Discord." The name typed at the bottom is "Khalilzad" (the U.S. Ambassador). The memo details the excruciating hardship and fear of Iraqi staff working at the embassy, and the risk to their lives and the lives of their family members due to their employment at the embassy. And it indicates threats to the broader public including abductions, threats to women's rights, and "ethnic cleansing."
