Josh Marshall reports on the Georgia and Texas Republicans who not only vigorously oppose Darwin's theory of evolution, but also share the belief of Cardinal Robert Bellarmine, Inquisitor-General of the Vatican in 1633, that “the earth is not rotating … nor is it going around the sun.” It was precisely this "earth revolving around the Sun" heresy which got Galileo threatened with torture by the Vatican, in response to which he felt obliged to recant.
