What's Opera, Doc? This cartoon was the consensus favorite in a survey of over one thousand animators, cartoon historians and other animation pros, published in The 50 Greatest Cartoons, As Selected by 1000 Animation Professionals (published in 1998). Directed by Chuck Jones for Warner Bros., the film squeezes Wagner's epic 14 hour Der Ring des Nibelungen opera into 6 minutes. Jones always gave enormous credit to his layout designer Maurice Noble, for the distinctive and dramatic color scheme which make the visuals so compelling. Story: Michael Maltese Animation: Ken Harris, Richard Thompson, Abe Levitow Effects Animation: Harry Love Layouts: Maurice Noble Background Art: Philip DeGuard Editor: Treg Brown Voices: Mel Blanc Musical Direction: Milt Franklyn
