Alexan­der Gourse is a doc­tor­al stu­dent in the his­to­ry depart­ment at North­west­ern Uni­ver­si­ty. Before return­ing to grad­u­ate school, he worked as a para­le­gal, defend­ing home­own­ers against preda­to­ry mort­gage lenders, and did free­lance writ­ing for In These Times and oth­er publications.
